Nowadays Mara hangs out in modern Japan, and constantly pesters Buddha and Jesus (also living in modern Japan). He spends a great deal of time with Lucifer, bugging him to be his friend online (he spends a LOT of time online).
Character Personality: To begin with Mara's personality, one must consider the way the Buddhists view Mara: as an irritant. He's no Lucifer, who will torture your soul for eternity if you do enough things wrong in life. Mara is just a bother who never managed to do any productive tempting. Nobody takes him seriously.
This is the basis for Mara's insecurity nowadays. He's not a decent tempter, a scary demon, or anything intimidating. He continually sends Buddha texts, sure, in the hopes that Buddha will either be annoyed or respond or be annoyed enough to respond, but mostly Buddha just ignores them. He'll make an ugly Mii in Buddha's image and send it to him. This too does not do any long-term psychological damage.
Despite spending a lot of time with Lucifer, he denies being friends with him when asked... because Lucifer hasn't accepted his friend requests. (Lucifer meanwhile says that he doesn't have a computer.) Though he is a scary demon who's supposed to be tempting Buddha, he runs off when Buddha doesn't like his food. That he made. Using soap. (To be fair, he thought it had anti-cancer properties.)
Basically, he's extremely sensitive about both his attempts at tempting and his attempts at making friends with Buddha. Though he's constantly on his phone, he'll be polite enough to turn it off in a theater. He's really not that bad a person, just trying to be taken seriously as a demon and continually failing at it, but continually hopeful and persistent.
Character Abilities: Can cause minor hallucinations; Mara used these to try to stop Buddha's meditation but it didn't even faze him.
Character Inventory: Cell phone (it's a cell phone that does cell phone things.)

Mara types furiously at his phone. This is the third message he's sent to Buddha today: the first two have gone unanswered so far. This one, though, is about healthy eating. Healthy eating that includes foods typically eaten. Buddha's encouragement of healthy living won't allow him to not answer, right?
While he waits for an answer, he checks his favorite websites. There are movies coming out, GIFs to save for proper use, Jesus's blog is always interesting... He occasionally checks sites about Buddhism to see if he ever gets a better representation and is inevitably disappointed, but there's still the rest of the internet to search while he waits for his phone to beep with a text back.
He notices when his eyes start to droop that he's been surfing the internet for a few hours now without a single beep. He'll run down the battery this way... But maybe he can plug it in and let it recharge while he waits for that text back. After all, he's sent three today. While he waits, he'll just... let his head rest a little...
His alarm wakes him up and not the phone, though he frantically checks his inbox anyway. Mara slumps in disappointment, but picks himsself up proudly. Today is another day, isn't t?
